Kaveri's Detective Story

THE BANGALORE DETECTIVES CLUB - Harini Nagendra The Bangalore Detectives Club caught my attention in a Melbourne library, and I was in awe. Evidently, I was eager to read a novel set in Bangalore and in a genre that I enjoy. A nicely narrated murder mystery set against a 1920s backdrop. It is a vivid depiction of an Indian city before independence. Details about food habits, culture, city, transportation, racism based on caste, and gender inequality during those times are rendered beautifully. Kaveri the protagonist in the story, being a part of this conservative society is bold enough to fight for justice. Ramu being a loving and supportive husband adds strength to Kaveri’s detective journey. A tinge of light romance between Kaveri and Ramu elevates them as a perfect pair. The references to Kaveri's interest in the investigative novels " Lady Molly of Scotland Yard " and " The Sign of the Four " by Arthur Conan Doyle(Creator of Sherlock Holmes) were partic...
